Can you predict the future? Take our Oscars quiz to find out

You’ve heard of the wisdom of the crowds, but just how far does collective knowledge extend? We know that if enough people guess the number of jelly beans in a jar, for example, the median guess will be spookily accurate. What we’ve recently realised, thanks to experiments carried out by the US intelligences agencies, is that crowds of ordinary people can also predict world events better than professional analysts. To put this idea to the test, try the quiz below. Our hypothesis is that if enough New Scientist readers vote, we may be able to collectively predict who will emerge triumphant at the Oscars.
